Arrangement Made from Elements of Thank You Gift

A recent recipient of a Manhattan Fruitier Thank You Basket had this to say:

“The most scrumptious arrangement, almost too nice to break into … but of course, I have! I have taken the greenery and the heather (how Scottish) and put into a vase to keep…I have already joffled down the plum which was perfect for eating. I have left the rest to be admired and shared with my colleagues, including the little thank you cookies which are adorable. A couple of things are ripe now which is good and some need a smidge more ripening, so it’ll last longer. The chocolate dipped dried fruits though are MINE all MINE.”

The Golden Lin-icious Apple

We couldn’t resist naming a new apple after Jeremy Lin, the Big Apple’s newest star. It’s the Golden Lin-icious! This apple is easy to love. First, it’s has a blue skin and golden, orangey flesh. It’s a durable and versatile apple. It’s firm, crispy and juicy. Flavor and aroma are unmistakable — distinctively sweet and tart at the same time. The shape is also agreeable: tall and tapering, with broad shoulders. The Golden Lin-icious is a real performer — can be eaten out of hand, used in pressing cider and is strong enough to be used for cooking. Overall, it’s a real winner.

Not only has Jeremy Lin captured our imaginations, but he has also captured our hearts here at Manhattan Fruitier. He took time out before last night’s game to sign autographs for his youngest fans, including 9- year-old Kalell, whose mom Nadine is on our Manhattan Fruitier team.

Fruit Sticker on Hand

Ever since fruit distributors and sellers decided that every piece of fruit needed its own sticker, we have had to deal with them. We decided that we would take off all stickers, except for organic fruit stickers because they clearly identify the fruit as organic. The next question: What to do with the stickers? Here, we see that Nadine makes a sticker pile on the back of her hand.

Alternatively, we stick them to the face of a cardboard fruit box. We love the collage created by the random application of the stickers.

Elephant & Apple Sculpture

There is a public exhibition of 18 sculpture compositions by Peter Woytuk that runs along Broadway from Columbus Circle with the monumental “Elephant Pair” and continuing north along Broadway, culminating with the majestic and graceful “2 Bulls” at 168th Street.

Woytuk allows the power and elegance of his subjects to become both graceful and whimsical expressions of mass. Using a style that is at once descriptive and expressive, Woytuk also enjoys altering the scale of everyday objects such as tools or fruit, which in his hands are transformed into animated participants in the composition.

For the woman or man on the go, Hermès designed an Apple Bag that holds and single apple and has an apple corer in the strap. Of course it’s pricey. But rest assured, being too busy will no longer be an excuse for missing your afternoon apple. We at Manhattan Fruitier will happily fill anyone’s Apple Bag with a beautiful apple – gratis.

We use the Pak-Tyer to wrap and tie our hampers with red string. This is low tech, and all the more amazing for it. We place a hamper in the opening of the machine and step on a foot pedal. A metal arm threaded with red string swings around the hamper twice and somehow ties a handy knot. It happens so fast that we can’t really see how it ties the knot. We think the Pak-Tyer is the greatest invention since slice bread.
